History

Founded in 1988 as Verna’s Ventures (VV) our company specialized in packaging and graphic marketing solutions. In 1994, VV entered the government contracting arena, obtaining its first GSA contract to sell janitorial and hospitality supplies, food service items, and cleaning equipment. Shortly thereafter in 1996, VV added its second GSA contract to sell shipping and packaging goods. VV became a well-respected distributor of custom shipping packaging, corrugated products, and large capacity/bulk containers over the next several decades.

Meanwhile AlphaVets, Inc. was formed in 2019 by CEO Cynthia Spragg to leverage her healthcare and military experience transitioning into the civilian world as an entrepreneur. As a Service-Disabled Veteran still serving in her 35th year, a driving factor important to Cindy is that her professional life after military service keeps her connected with Veterans. Partners Joan Wunk and Shawn Lydon share Cindy’s vision and values while adding diverse business and industry expertise, allowing her to expand the scope of her business idea. Joan Wunk brings over twenty years of experience directly managing several government contracts (including janitorial and shipping/packaging goods) as well as Acting Director on several large multi-million-dollar government projects.

Shawn Lydon provides additional business and healthcare industry experience as a Nursing Leader responsible for the operations of the largest oncology unit in the southeast and as a Project Manager successfully overseeing a massive $125 million expansion project.

In 2020, after vetting multiple companies, AlphaVets purchased Verna’s Ventures. This acquisition presented an ideal opportunity for our ownership team; directly aligning with our experience and providing the perfect vehicle for growth. AlphaVets has since expanded the company’s product offerings to include office supplies and hardware, substantially increasing revenue from previous years. Strategically, each partner is involved in building relationships within their areas of expertise, working towards set goals for each product line. Despite COVID’s best efforts to undermine, developing partnerships with trusted medical suppliers will advance our mission to serve Veterans and ultimately become a preferred vendor for the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). Our goals for 2021 will only continue to add value to our customers as we bring on new suppliers and offer a wider selection of goods in each product line; all while passing along cost-savings to our partners realized with our small business footprint.
